Frequently Asked Questions about
The Balanced Weigh Health/Weight Management Program

Q.  What is the difference between this program and the hundreds of other weight loss programs available?

This program teaches you to appreciate food and physical activity as solutions rather than problems. Dr. Willis does not attempt to reinvent nutrition, but teaches the plain and simple principles that we have strayed from due to the compost heap of misinformation out there.

Q. You don’t seem to focus all of your attention on weight loss in your Information Meeting so how important is it to good health?

Overweight and inactivity is the second preventable cause of death in the U.S. and will soon surpass smoking which is the leading cause.   We are digging our graves with our knives, forks and spoons and leaving this life prematurely. I believe we will have a desire to lose the weight and drastically reduce risk when we finally understand food and how to have a relationship with it.  We then learn to appreciate our health, and are presented with a rational way to eat and be physically active that provides confidence and hope for the long term.

Q.  What kind of foods are you recommending?

I teach the value of eating “real” food such as fruits,    vegetables, whole grains and beans.  I move you away from what I call the fake or alternative products that are highly processed and marketed and distractions on the path to health.  Click on The Balanced Weigh Pyramid on the Home Page to learn more.

Q.  Do you sell vitamin and mineral, herbal supplements or any other products?

No, I sell healthy habits through eating and physical activity.

Q.  What is your opinion of white sugar and flour?

We need a relationship with sugar and white flour, however it is true that some of us have too good of a relationship with these far less than perfect foods.  Once we get the base of the pyramid in place, we can then more effectively control our intake foods towards the top of the Balanced Weigh Pyramid.

Q.  Do you give us menu’s and lists of food and do we keep track of points or exchanges?

No to all of the above!  I do provide you a recipe book based upon the Balanced Weigh principles and guidelines and you then make the decisions based upon your new understanding of nutrition and the gift of physical activity.  This understanding of food requires that we learn about calories, fat and fiber and track the amounts of fruit and vegetables we consume daily.

Q.  Will this program and lifestyle help me reduce my cholesterol level and avoid statin drugs?

95% of the Balanced Weigh participants lower their cholesterol below 200 because almost all high cholesterol is related to lifestyle choices.  (Yes, I know you think it runs in your family, but it is habits that run in families!)  Click on the Cholesterol Chart on the Home Page to see actual changes in participants.

Q.  Will this lifestyle of eating and activity help my GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux disease)?

The majority of GERD is lifestyle related and this is good news since we can change our habits, and in the majority of cases eliminate this problem.

Q.  I have diabetes and you are encouraging people to eat 3 pieces of fruit a day.  Won’t that raise my blood sugar level and risk?

I have worked with hundreds of diabetics and almost all have had a decrease in their blood sugar level when they begin to eat a healthy diet and engage in activity and lose weight.  Just remember that you are not overweight because you ate too much fruit!  Overweight is the main cause of adult- onset diabetes and it is essential that diabetics lose weight as well as eat healthy and exercise.

Q.  How do you feel about vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements?

Do you eat 3 whole pieces of fruit a day and 3 cups of vegetables?  Do you include beans and whole grains and eat two meatless meals a day and two meatless days a week?  Are you at your healthy weight and get cardiovascular exercise 5 days a week?  If you do not do these things, then all the supplements on the planet will not lead to improved health and reduction in disease like lifestyle changes will.

Q.  How do men respond to your program?

Men enjoy the class due to my no-nonsense straight       forward approach to eating and physical activity. This is not the typical weight loss experience.  We don’t clap in here and I encourage you to weigh only once a week at home on an accurate scale!  I have had hundreds of couples take the class together, and without exception they agree that was a wise decision.

Q.  What is the youngest participant you will work with?

I work with youth 12 years and older that are accompanied by one or both parents.

Q.  What if I don’t like or want to exercise?

To be able to move is a gift and a privilege and an essential part of building our house of health.  I will serve as your personal trainer and find the cardiovascular activity that you can engage in.  Now I have a question for you!  Which blade of the scissors is most important?  Both food and physical activity are habits that lead to excellent health and well-being.

Q.  What % of people drop out of the 7 week program?
Between 5-10%

Q.  What % recommends your program to others?
Over 90%

Q.  How are participants doing using the DVD program as opposed to a live class?

I was very interested in this question myself and have observed that the results in terms of weight loss, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar are comparable.  The key for DVD participants is to maintain the same structure we have in the weekly class, keep accurate food and activity records and receive weekly feedback.

Q.  Are you ready to change or fine-tune your current habits and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of improved health and well-being?

If so, Consider The Balanced Weigh
